ASTRONOMY NEWT: Information Pack
Due to the fact that Astronomy is not available at OWL level, there has been an introduction to Astronomy NEWT level.
About This CourseAstronomy is one of the oldest sciences and yet it is the forefront of wizardological discorvery. Astronomists are continually visiting new worlds, discovering new bodies in our solar system and universe and exploring phenomona such as black holes, the universal creation theories and life in the universe. It is research like this that makes me the study of Astronomy so exciting.
On this course you will gain an understanding of different astronomy theories and techniques. The history of astronomy and it's cultural impacts are also explored. At the same time, you will improve your understanding of the most recent advances and discoveries.
Course ComponentsYou will follow my own personal approved NEWT specifications and not the Ministry of Magic's. There are 6 units:

Unit 2. The Moon and the Sun - the Moon, the Sun, Eclipses including:
Unit 2a. Lunar Eclipse Dates
Unit 2b. Solar Eclipse Dates
Unit 3. The Solar System - Planets, Asteroids, Meteors, Comets
Unit 4. Stars and Galaxies - Constellations, Stars, Galaxies
Unit 5. Observing techniques and space exploration - Observing the universe, Exploring the universe, Telescope Mechanism
Unit 6. Zodiac Signs
Unit 6a. Investigation
Unit 6b. History of the Zodiac
Unit 6c. Divination Links
Assessment75% written exam in your 7th Year
25% homework assignments, throughout the research duration you will be assigned homework, you are expected to complete this to the best of your knowledge, to achieve a good grade.
Special NotesDuring your time taking part in NEWT Astronomy it is advised you get alot of sleep, as Astronomy is taken late at night in the Astronomy tower, normally. Telescopes and textbooks will be provided, although it is best if you bring your own telescope as it will mean you have the privelage of not having to work in pairs.
